Ymchwilio pyramidiau niferoedd

Investigating pyramids of numbers

Ar feddalwedd ‘ Ysglyfaeth/Ysglyfaethwr ’ Sunflower, ceir llawer o awgrymiadau a thaflenni gwaith i helpu egluro’r testun hwn i ddysgwyr.

Bwriad y gweithgaredd yw atgyfnerthu dealltwriaeth dysgwyr o ‘Sut mae gwyddoniaeth yn gweithio’ a phyramidiau niferoedd, drwy efelychu perthnasau ysglyfaeth ysglyfaethwr .

Gellid ei gyflwyno fel gweithgaredd ‘Jig-so’ ble mae pob grŵp o ddysgwyr yn ymchwilio i ffactor gwahanol (newidyn annibynnol) i ddarganfod ei effaith ar boblogaethau planhigion, cwningod a llwynogod. Dyma rai newidynnau annibynnol posibl:

  • faint o oleuni
  • nifer y cynhyrchwyr (planhigion)
  • nifer yr ysglyfaethau (cwningod)
  • nifer yr ysglyfaethwyr (llwynogod)

Cliciwch yma am gwestiynau i helpu dysgwyr ddeall y gweithgaredd.

I sicrhau profion teg, bydd angen gosod gwerthoedd y newidynnau allweddol yn ystod trafodaeth ddosbarth cyfan dan arweiniad yr athro/athrawes.

Cliciwch yma am siart amlinell y gallai grwpiau o ddysgwyr ei ddefnyddio i gasglu’u data.

Ar ôl casglu’r data ar eu newidyn annibynnol neilltuol, gallai’r dysgwyr lunio’r pyramid niferoedd ar ôl (dyweder) 30 mlynedd a defnyddio’u canfyddiadau i adrodd yn ôl i’r dosbarth i gyd.

Gellir defnyddio’r dadansoddwr data yn y meddalwedd i ddangos graffiau o boblogaethau wrth iddynt newid.

The Sunflower 'Predator Prey' software includes many suggestions and worksheets to help explain this topic to learners

This activity aims to reinforce learners' understanding of 'How science works' and pyramids of number, through simulations of predator prey relationships

It could be presented as a 'Jigsawing' type activity where each group of learners investigates a different factor (independent variable) to find out its effect on the populations of plants, rabbits and foxes. Possible independent varibles include:

  • amount of sunlight
  • number of producers (plants)
  • number of prey (rabbits)
  • number of predators (foxes)

Click here for some suggested questions to help learners to understand the activity

To ensure fair tests are conducted, it will be necessary to set the values of the key variables during an initial teacher-led whole class discussion

Click here for an outline chart which groups of learners could use to collect their data

Having collected data on their assigned independent variable, learners could draw the pyramid of numbers after (say) 30 years and use their findings as a basis for reporting back to the whole class

The data analyser in the software can be used to show graphs of populations as they change
